A Christmas Gift by Amber Neben

December 24, 2010

Some things just deserve to be lauded… publicly. This is one. Here’s a hardy “Good on Ya” for the pro cyclist Amber Neben.

Olympic cyclist Amber Neben donated and organized a bike distribution for EVERY CHILD in the homeless shelter run by The Illumination Foundation in Orange County California. She provided a bike, helmet and lock to ensure the children could safely use their new gift. The kids were so excited to have their own bikes, a first for many of them.

The Illumination Foundation’s mission: Illuminate lives by bridging the gaps in existing services for the most underserved to break or prevent the cycle of homelessness in Orange County.

The Cycle of Insanity: The Real Story of Water

February 26, 2010

Several Southern California Surfrider chapters came together to reexamine the ecological realities of water as they exist today, which looks quite different from when we were in grade school.

Google Waves Goodbye to 2009

December 26, 2009

Google released its software package “Google Wave” late in 2009, and while it has a wide range of useful features, Wave still hasn’t quite exploded in use. It will.

This video looks back on some of the main events of 2009 — it’s essentially your average “year in review” video piece (though too thin in content for my taste). Still, I like it. I like it as a video piece, and I like it as a creative use of Google Wave. Plus, I like it as a very resourceful way to make a video; telling two stories at once… a story of the year 2009, and a story of Wave’s capabilities.
